{1.1c1d1} your search and browsing histories build a resonance calendar
topics: [[internet]],[[personal data and data rights]]
My first Google search on my primary account was on Christmas in 2011 for “potato sack hoodie”. Apparently I haven’t cleared my search history since.
A few months ago, I spent hours scrolling my old Tumblr blogs and loved that they acted as a type of “resonance calendar” timestamping when I was listening to a particular song or was especially interested in a movie or show.
It occurred to me last night that my google activity would be a more comprehensive version of the same thing.
It may not indicate the first time I came across something that resonated with me, but it does tell me, for example, that I was rewatching Salad Fingers on December 10, 2012 at 4:34 p.m.
It’s frustrating because I actually like having a lot of this data, but I want to be the one controlling it. Feels very opaque.
