{1.3a1} the shadow lands

topics: [[politics and american history]]

The shadow lands are places of where humans have prioritized efficiency over human rights, animal rights, the environment, and so on.
This is hard for us to look at; our culture tells us that the problems of the world – like those seen in the shadow lands – can and must be fixed by us as individuals through self-improvement.
- e.g, through {7.1} the body as a means of control, or consistency of brand.
We “outsource” friction from our lives to the shadow lands; this outsources our suffering.
- friction doesn’t disappear just because we don’t see it
We have to integrate the shadow lands.
- ? Is this the embodiment of our shadows? The physical mirror world we’re all satirizing?
